Have I done it? Did I wrangle back myself some refunds and not pay the sky for my date change? Will I make it to my job in Buyeo and please everyone else? This is mission impossible and I’m surprised I kind of managed.
What I’ve learnt is that unless you’re really certain you can stick to your travel plans, then you can pay the absolute cheapest tickets out there, as most of them are non-refundable. I’ve paid the price of not paying another $400 more in the beginning four months ago with Air New Zealand as my black market student price was a sale price and it’s absolutely NON- REFUNDABLE. On top of that, I would pay for the sky just to get the same seat at an earlier date, because of admin fee and fare difference.
So, when I found out that it was cheaper to buy another ticket with another carrier, it was a simple decision to ditch my original ticket and decided to fly with…. United Airlines (yeah… not the greatest airlines, no personal entertainment system, only one checked baggage) Why did I bother?
Well, I had to bother because I could claim flight credit in refunds from my now-cancelled Montreal tickets with United, which was a relief. At least not all was lost and I could still use my Raleigh ticket. Though beware of admin fee and tax differences, the unseen wallet assassin. Phew, that’s settled.
Now, getting to my job in Buyeo the soonest I can was more challenging than I thought. Who would have thought everyone decided to fly to Seoul from LA and San Francisco around the same time as me? Well, not everyone, but it looks like it. But regardless, I managed to get a ticket out of Dallas and I should be in Buyeo just on time.
Mission: Date reshuffle to the US of A- accomplished
Mission: Wrangle back refunds from my cancelled tickets- halfway accomplished?
Mission: Getting to Buyeo just on time- should be accomplished.
Unfortunately, Miss Hoggy knows no trick for flight refunds and date changes except for one thing:
read the fine prints and do prepare for the worse, if plans don’t go to well… plan.
